Recitals
Last updated 24 Oct 2008
Annually, in June, the years work will culminate with a dance
review. The importance of the dance class itself - procedure, discipline,
subject matter, even atmosphere, can hardly be overestimated.
Certainly, each class should hold some special meaning for its students; but dance, in its fullest meaning, is a performing art and the logical extension of its study is from class to stage.
The students have worked hard all year, set their sights high, and no matter how young, deserve this reward and experience. Even with all the hard work of learning a dance, going to rehearsals and practicing, the dance review has never failed to bring the students a special bit of magic that makes it all worthwhile.
The general purpose of this performance is to provide students
with the opportunity to perform on stage some of what they have learned, and to
do so in costumes with stage lighting, audience, applause, etc.
The recital is held at a local high school auditorium. No budget monies are available for rental, stage hands, scenery, programs, etc. Therefore, tickets will be sold (tickets range from $5.00 to $7.00). Students participating in the show do not need a ticket.
Participation in Recital
The recital is optional for all students. Only students who continue throughout the "Spring" course are eligible to participate. Students who do not plan to participate should notify their teachers when costumes are being ordered.
Rehearsals for Recital
There are two rehearsals before the recital. A "Barestage" Rehearsal (no costumes or scenery) that is held in May and a Dress Rehearsal (full stage, costumes, lighting, etc.) that is held just prior to the recital.
Costumes
Students who participate in a dance must purchase a costume. Costumes range in price from $45.00 - $85.00 Students will receive their costume order forms in late December or early January. Forms are to be returned immediately with deposit required. The balance due to be paid in April or May when costumes arrive. No deposit refund can be made on costumes once they have been ordered.
